Auction Terms and Comments

  • 10% buyer's premium charged on all transactions. Tax numbers allowed with proof of the number and the filling of specific forms before bidder card is given. Tax rate is 6.75%. State taxes are applied unless tax number is shown and in the computer system or it is an estate auction.
  • Various credit cards are accepted (no American Express or Discover), but no charges below $25 are allowed. Debit cards are viewed the same way as credit cards. Cash is preferred over all, but checks are also allowed with a $25 return fee added onto any returned checks. Identification must be shown when paying with a check.
  • River City employees have the right to bid during the auction.
  • Children are to be seated and quiet, we are not able to keep watch over their every movement. You are responsible to ensure their safety.
  • Smoking, unless otherwise stated, must be done outside and not near any doors. If weather is severely stormy - such as rain or snow, one may smoke in the front area of the building but not within the auction house itself. Cold weather is not included in itself. Be considerate of others at all times.
  • Bleachers and chairs are available, some are reserved. Click here to see what seats are available.
  • You may bid anywhere in the auction house as long as you are in the same area that items are being auctioned off at and the auction crew can see you bidding. If we do not see you bidding, get our attention by making a noise.
  • Persons caught moving items from boxes, stealing items from boxes, or stealing items in general will be held until law intervention arrives on the scene and forfeit any and all items that they have not paid for - along with items from their vehicle being checked and possible law intervention if necessary.
  • There are no guarantees on items unless stated that they do work in some capacity. Working is defined as getting power when turned on or plugged in, with some abilities tested - though not all, unless otherwise stated during the auction.
  • Pickup after the sale is on Sunday from 8:00-12:00, other arrangements can be made, but items left for more then a week can be forfeited to the auction house for resale.
  • Items that are passed during the auction will not be gone back to after or later in the sale, even if you were not capable of being there. Items that have a reserve may or may not be revealed during the auction. The seller's interest is first priority during the auction.
  • Noise in the building should be kept down so that the auction is enjoyable for all parties, not just yourself - it is not a social gathering, but rather a place of business. Please remember this, it is appreciated.
  • Snacks and drinks are available at the concession for your convenience.
  • Items before and during auction are subject to change.
  • All auctioneering is audio recorded for quality assurance.
  • All sales are final, no refunds.
  • All items are sold "as is, where is". Meaning, unless otherwise stated before the auction or during, items are not guaranteed. If you buy an item that is mis-labeled, then that is different then the item simply not working. Working is defined as getting power and basic functions being investigated.

Online Bidding

Online bidding is the same as placing an absentee bid on an item, except it is sent to the webmaster of this website via e-mail. Bids will be accepted up to one hour before the start of the auction. All bids received in the hour before the start of an auction will not be counted. It is strongly recommend that any online bid be placed 1 hour before the start of the auction in order for us to follow the proper procedures for absentee bids.

Directions: Find an item you wish to leave an absentee bid on. You can do this by checking our gallery or catalog. Once you know which item(s) you would like to bid on, click the link to our online bidding page. Fill out all the proper information (comments are not required). Please try to be as specific as you can, as there are usually a lot of items. There is a box for the page the picture is on, so remember to use this. For example: "Picture page 2, third picture, the cut glass bowl beside the green goblet." is much better than "glass bowl." If you are the winner of any item, you will be contacted via e-mail or phone about your total and when you can pick up your item. River City Auction has the right to refuse any and all bids given online, if needed.

Phone Bidding

If you wish to bid over the phone, you must either contact one of the persons in the auction house 1 hour before the item is to be up for auction, of not before the auction itself begins. River City Auction will call you when the item comes up and bid for you as if you were there. You must be prepared to pay at that time with a credit card unless otherwise approved beforehand. River City Auction has the right to refuse any and all bids online, if needed.

Services

Items we take - Read this in consideration first.

We take almost all items on consignment. If your item is damaged or could be considered a yard sale item, we do not wish for you to bring it. Items that need cleaning are also not wanted, unless otherwise discussed with the auction firm. If you have further questions on the items we will take, feel free to call us at (252) 335-1666. Commission rate varies according to quality and quantity of items given. River City has the rights to refuse any and all 'junk'.

Advertising

The webmaster offers advertisement on this webspace at no charge. If you wish to find out more information on this or are simply interested, feel free to contact us at webmaster@rivercityauctions.com. The advertisement must be discussed and arranged with the webmaster and will be set into the affiliates area. We have a lot of people visit our website from across Northeastern North Carolina and the Tidewater area of Virginia, so it can be a great tool.

On-site auctions (Same as In-House auctions)
(generally for large quantities of items or items unable to be moved easily to the auction site)

We are equipped to sell all of the contents of an estate. Our personnel will come to your home or business and review all items and with your approval, tag and take care of any and all of your needs.

Real Estate Auctions

We are available for the auction of your real estate both in North Carolina and in Virginia. We will work to get the highest dollar amount possible for your land!

Consignment Auctions

These are available and are a great means to get the most out of your quality items. Please call for more information on the policy or send an e-mail to webmaster@rivercityauctions.com and we will send you the consignment policy via e-mail.

Internet Sales

We also offer the service of selling your items on E-bay. Please call or e-mail at webmaster@rivercityauctions.com for more details on that program. Edna Arnesen will handle these auctions.

Buy and Sell

We buy entire households or a single item.  We will pay on the spot if you accept our offer.

Absentee Bids

An absentee bid is any bid taken before the start of the auction begins. Use an absentee bid when you will not be able to attend the auction and wish to bid on a specific item number. Forms are available before the start of the auction. The auctioneer will announce any absentee bids for an item when they reach that item. The auctioneer reserves the right to bid in favor of the seller. If you do attend a sale for which you left an absentee bid, please remember which items you have left a bid on. The auctioneer may not know that his absentees are present, and you could end up bidding against yourself. For a more detailed policy, send an e-mail to webmaster@rivercityauctions.com or call the main office.

Reserve Bids

Reserve bids can be placed on items that you sell through our auction. This is done at your discretion. This is not recommended for all items since the higher the reserve, the less likely the casual buyer will be willing to bid. For more information on charges for items that end up not selling, please contact the main office.
